The End of Life Vehicles Directive

Manufacturers and their contracted partners must also reach strict reuse, recovery and recycling targets – 85% of vehicle weight as of 2006 and 95% from 2015.

Free acceptance and recycling – conditions

Provided your Ford meets the following conditions, we will accept it when delivered to one of our appointed take-back facilities at no cost to yourself.

  • The vehicle is a passenger vehicle with a maximum of nine seats and weighs 3.5 tonnes or less
  • It is complete, i.e. contains the essential components, including engine, transmission, coachwork, wheels and catalytic converter (where fitted)
  • It is free from additional waste (e.g. garden/household waste, additional tyres)

When the primary battery in your vehicle reaches the end of its life, you have a number of options to follow:
If the battery is replaced at a garage, they may be happy to take the old battery from you for recycling. Alternatively, you could use your local Civic Amenity Site or Recycling Centre which will accept vehicle batteries from local residents, without charge.

Various businesses, such as garages, licensed authorised treatment facilities (vehicle dismantlers) or scrap yards, metal recycling companies or other waste removal/treatment companies might be happy to accept your battery without charge, in view of the residual value of the scrap metal. For more information on car battery disposal, please visit (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/regulations-batteries-and-waste-batteries)

If you have an electric powered or hybrid vehicle, there are specific obligations for producers/importers of such vehicles that are intended to help you deal with the batteries that power these vehicles when they become waste. From 1st January 2010, businesses that place hybrid/electric vehicle batteries onto the UK market have an obligation to arrange for the treatment and recycling of these batteries. If you have such a battery and need advice, please contact WasteCare Group on 0800 091 0000.

Ford Motor Company are obliged to collect, free of charge and within a reasonable time, waste automotive batteries for treatment and recycling from final holders, e.g. garages, scrap yards, end-of-life vehicle Authorised Treatment Facilities, Civic Amenity Sites, etc. We are required to do this in any calendar year we place new automotive batteries on the market.

If you are one of the above outlets and require us to take back any automotive batteries, please contact our battery compliance scheme on 0844 800 5671 (or email recycling@batteryback.org quoting reference number 165312) who will agree the necessary arrangements for the collection, proper treatment and recycling of the waste automotive batteries.

Additionally, from 1st January 2010, the disposal of waste industrial and automotive batteries by landfill or by incineration is banned. All battery producers in the UK are required to be registered with the Government as part of an EU-wide initiative to increase battery collection/recycling and completely prohibit the landfill/incineration of automotive and industrial batteries. Our battery producer is Johnson Controls Batteries Ltd (JCI) and their registration number is 982901.

Tyres

Every year, more than 3 million tonnes of used tyres are generated in the European Union. 2.5 million tonnes of these are either recycled or recovered.

Most EU manufacturers have adopted a legal framework that means the tyre manufacturers or importers are responsible for collecting unwanted tyres.

How to dispose of tyres?

The tyres can be disposed at no cost, whatever their brand, within the individual system.
You can find the collection points in the in following link.
